Facebook fun

Posted in Fun, Life on Tue, Sep 2, 2008, 6:24 pm

I have this stupid little people comparison app on my Facebook page that, against my will, periodically sends me updates in my email.  This week, on my list of strengths, was “craziest.”  I would lay awake at night wondering if I was just a little too sane; now I can rest easy.

Real monsoon

We’ve been getting some fairly decent storms this year, but tonight was a really good one. I was playing the piano, and out of the blue, I got a text message from Gil saying that a tree had fallen outside his apartment near our office. Out of curiosity, I turned on the news, and I heard things like “hurricane speed winds” and “horizontal rain.” Awesome.

What was a bit amusing was when the news blacked out for a minute, and they came back on all perplexed that their power went off, since that’s “not supposed to happen.” Then, I guess they noticed that they were broadcasting a random conversation between the camera guy and somebody else, and they gave us some “Grey’s Anatomy” instead.

And it looks like the rain is going again. I’ve been waiting for a storm like this since I got down to Phoenix.

Oh, and it’s hailing a bit too.

First of the Grand Canyon pictures

Finally, I’ve uploaded pictures from the Grand Canyon. This album is from the trip I took in may with my small group. The pictures from the trip I took in February will come at some later point.

New photo albums

So, my Coppermine gallery finally failed me. I’m not entirely sure if it was the gallery software’s fault or the export plugin, but I suddenly found that I could no longer export more than one photo at a time. Not wanting to sit around all day while I manually upload my new photos, I decided to try out Gallery instead, since it seemed convenient to install.

I have to say that not only did it go online easier, it has a built-in mechanism for remote gallery access, allowing a more reliable export plugin rather than the Coppermine iPhoto exporter’s hack on top of the XP publish system. It also allows a much slicker cross-access from Wordpress.

Therefore, I’ve updated all my album pages with the new stuff, and I’ll probably gradually update the other pages that are still referencing the old system. I also finally was able to post my Christmas pictures from this year. Here’s one of them.

Half Life 2

I haven’t posted in a while, I realize.  This is partially the fault of my Christmas traveling, and partially the fault of the Half Life 2 Orange Box which I bought recently. So, in honor of finishing it, I’m posting this humorous video.
